The settlements of the island of Vis

A fifteen-minute drive along the old Austrian road from Vis to Komiža, after you climb down from the Križ peak to the famous Vis highland, in the middle of the vineyards of the same name, will take you to the village of Plisko polje.
Marine zemlje is the name of the eight hamlets hidden within the hills which are reachable when turning from the old road to Komiža towards the south, just after exiting the village of Plisko polje.
Several hamlets are scattered on both sides of the plainest part of the road passing through the Vis vineyards, which from the Sv. Vid hill up to the Podšpilje, called Dračevo polje, is located exactly halfway from Vis to Komiža.
It was named after the fortress that defended this south-eastern Vis shore from pirate attacks and was located around a hundred meters from the village.
On the southern slope of the hill that rises above Vino polje on one side, and climbs down to Velo polje on the other, an hour's walk from Vis, is Podselje or Veo Selo, once the largest settlements on the island of Vis.
The Brgujac (Bargujac) village was founded as a fishermen's port on the small peninsula of the same name in the middle of the most developed part of the south-eastern shore of the island of Vis.
On the far southeast of the island, ten kilometres drive from the town of Vis is the village of Rukavac.
As with many other fishermen's hamlets, summer cottages have also been constructed in Stončica but because of the steep and high shore as well as due to the unapproachable and narrow terrain they have not predominated the bay but have harmonically merged into the landscape.
Around ten kilometers from the town of Vis, in the bay of the same name located in the middle of the south-eastern Vis coast, is Milna, the first famous Vis summer resort.
Rogačić and Parja coves are the closest holiday settlement to Vis town.
